Among the many symptoms and outcomes of gum disease, gum recession is one of the most common. As gums pull away from the teeth, the roots that are usually below the surface are exposed. We utilize a unique procedure for gum disease therapy in Franklin Park known as Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique. Essentially, we gently reposition the gums and eliminate the need for more complex and invasive treatment that requires a longer recovery. Are you interested in learning more? Unlike traditional treatment, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique does not involve scalpels and sutures. It brings back the gum tissue through minimally invasive treatment.
Using a small needle, we create a “pinhole,” which allows us to insert our special instrument into the gum tissue. This tissue is then stretched to be loose, and our periodontist covers the exposed tooth root. With no sutures, your recovery should be much easier and faster.
Gum recession from periodontal disease is the primary reason for recommending the Chao Pinhole® surgical technique. However, it may become necessary as a result of aggressive brushing, smoking, poor oral hygiene, teeth grinding, hormonal changes, or genetics.
With traditional gum grafting, the process can take multiple visits to achieve the final results, but through the Chao Pinhole® surgical technique, we usually are able to treat multiple areas of gum recession in a single appointment.
This technique provides many unique advantages that cannot be matched by other periodontal therapies. Rather than relying on scalpels, sutures, or invasive treatment, the Chao Pinhole process is only entails using a small needle and specialized dental instruments.
